Various folks have been making lists of stuff, and I have too, so here’s a movie list. Movies I have enjoyed. Not necessarily in order of my esteem for them, but, maybe, sorta.
1. Blade Runner. Rises above science-fiction. If you only watch one, this one should be it.
2. Excalibur. The best of the Arthurian movies. Nichol Williamson’s Merlin makes it worth the price of admission, but there’s lots more. If anyone is thinking about making a movie about this legend, watch this one first and don’t proceed unless you think you can do better.
3. Breaker Morant. One of the early arrivals in the “wave” of Australian films. Based on Scapegoats of the Empire. Aussie soldiers fighting in the Boer War for dear old England, prosecuted for (horrors) killing the enemy.
4. Unforgiven. Much as with Blade Runner and sci-fi, Excalibur and Arthur, if there were only one western, this would be the right one.
5. The Lord of the Rings (the 3 of them counting as 1 here). The 3 DVD set is one of the few movies I own.
6. Forrest Gump. So shoot me.
