Cheer up sleepy Jeanne . . .

This morning I learned that John Stewart had left us. He was, long ago, with the Kingston Trio, and had a long career after that on his own. I re-discovered his music in recent times, having heard a beautiful song I’ve never found a recording of: “Because of a Dancer.” Maybe someday. He was famously the composer of “Daydream Believer.” As much as I thought the Monkees were crap, this song somehow always resonated with me. I am glad to have a number of John Stewart’s songs on my computers now, and my iPods. If you get a chance, check the offerings on iTunes.

He sang in this quavery voice, sounding a bit old, and it somehow worked for me, carried emotion well. I always thought I’d get to see him perform, but, and I hope I don’t forget this, I never bothered to make it happen, and now it never will. The same for Dan Fogelberg who died a few weeks ago.

Being a sentimental sort, I direct your attention in particular to Mr. Stewart’s song “Jasmine.” I’ve been piddling around adding it to my repertoire, I’m going to finish that project in the next day or two (maybe even today).

I, too, heard about his death this morning, as I listened to NPR on my way to gingerly lead fitness classes.

It’s sad that it takes things like this to remind us that we can’t be complacent about “getting around” to things. Let’s get serious about meeting this summer, okay?

I loved “Daydream Believer”. I had just never paid attention to who wrote the silly thing. Thanks for calling us out about these things. Our generation is fading before out very eyes.

Long life the Queen, I guess.
