Winter Solstice Carnival, Day One

This is a building in the Port of Entry part of Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure. It is decorated to celebrate the upcoming end of the sun’s journey to the south.

So, I’ve decided my celebratory schedule. The sun has set on Dec. 18, so my season has begun. I actually mailed some greeting cards, and printed up some photos. I’ll start shopping for presents tomorrow. My middle initial “E” does not stand for Ebeneezer. (For that matter, my first initial “G” does not stand for Grinch). Tomorrow I will also plan my good deed for the Carnival. I always manage something, and, so far, always anonymously.

I was saddened when I heard of the passing of Dan Fogelberg. There was a time when he was my favorite musician. I still listen to some of his songs. Hard to name an absolute favorite. I’ll mention “Dancing Shoes,” “To the Morning,” “Leader of the Band.” I still play and sing “Old Tennessee” sometimes. Farewell to you.

All for now.

Dan Fogelberg really did contribute a great deal to the soundtrack of my youth. Farewell, indeed.

I too will miss Mr. Folgelberg. I guess that we are getting older, this bunch of us that remembers those times. News of his passing wasn’t in my local paper nor on G**gle, at least that I saw. My mom listened to all kinds of stuff and was a folky from the get go. Gene pools or early intervention music, I don’t know. But I do hope that Mr. Folgerberg passed on easily and comfortable and knowing that many of us recall his tunes.

“Same Auld Lang Syne” is one of the most beautiful pop ballads ever written, imo.

Gerry, thanks so much for mentioning Dan Folgeberg’s passing. Why oh why isn’t that in the headlines?? I agree with Ms. Lori and will be sure to listen to Same Auld Lang Syne over the holidays. He had so many perfect songs. K.
