I shot this bit of foliage at Leu Gardens. I’m not sure what it is.
I spent most of Friday, Saturday, and today (Sunday) babysitting our little granddaughter. Parents were out of town, and my honey had to spend the weekend at her store in Mt. Dora for Craft Fair weekend. The Fair tends to make her store busier than usual, and two people are needed. Anyway, I just really enjoyed my time with the little one. She is so loving, and so easy to be with, that it was just wonderful. Needless to say, no naps, so I’m a bit tired, but I don’t care. It was rainy most of the time, so my outdoor potential plans came to naught. We did walk to a park on Friday (and back). She had a soccer game Saturday morning, and the rain pretty much held off for that. Her team won, but nobody pays much attention to that. Really kind of amusing watching these little 5 and 6 year olds running around (the amusement releived my usual boredom with soccer). Indoors we played games, worked on her reading, and cuddled. Ah, there was also a birthday party at a kids’ gym.
Nothing like family to get my mind off world affairs (which, if anyone read my recent posts, do not make me happy). Kids require pretty close to 100% of one’s attention (like I’m telling anyone something they don’t already know).
Here’s some Sunday tidbits:
A poster for the movie “Michael Clayton,” on the side of the theater had the following bit of wisdom on it: “The Truth Can Be Altered.” Hmmm. Actually, no it can’t.
There’s a really tasty sauce called “Merlie’s Magic.” Try it if you can find it, the company is Hoboken Joe, they have a website.
I saw a bit on TV (Discovery? Science?) about Malmo, Sweden. They showed some photo-voltaic panels on an apartment completely adequate to powering the place, and a tall building (a skyscraper?) made energy efficient by, among other things, using light-emitting-diodes (LEDs) for all the lights (even more efficient, I guess, than flourescent). There were a few other things also. My question is: Why are there no visible measures like that here? As far as I know, buying and using LEDs is not even an option here. UPDATE: You can buy LED bulbs with Edison bases, they are expensive, I think I’ll try one. Near where I live there are numerous townhouse and low-rise condos going up. I’ll bet there are no wind generators, no photo-voltaic, no LEDs, or anything else. Why are we so far behind on this?
Waiting for my honey to come home so I can take her out to dinner.
