Quissett-Dories One Year On

Quissett-Dories One Year On, originally uploaded by twoblueday. I posted a picture of these dories last year, on Flickr, and possibly on my old Blogger blog. Just couldn’t resist an update. Quissett Harbor is one of the prettiest places on Cape Cod in my estimation.

Labor Day is gone, the crowds are gone, and the halcyon days are here. Beautiful clear day today, nice breeze. We just picked a bunch of apples from our little tree, applesauce with dinner tonight. We picked up fresh corn at a farm stand this morning, that’ll be eaten with dinner as well. We get some really fine sweet corn to eat here, some of it grown on the Cape, some brought in from nearby mainland farms. Yummy.

I’m taking a vacation from politics and “issues.”

I’ve been thinking about my song list again, and my second nominee (remember, I’m not ranking them in any order, just putting them on the list as they come to mind) is Stevie Nicks doing “Edge of Seventeen.” There’s something about that insistent 16th note background (or is it 8th notes?) just gets hold of me whenever I hear it. I’m not a big Fleetwood Mac fan, although I enjoyed a number of their songs in their heyday. I am particularly fond of a number the band did before Ms. Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined up, the Peter Green days, that song is “Oh, Well.” I looked on iTunes and it has been covered a number of times, surprisingly. Fine repeating guitar riff. In the same vein as “Edge of Seventeen,” I’m also fond of Stevie Nicks’s “Stand Back,” insistent rhythm, get the heart start to pumpin’, knees start to jumpin’.

I watched the pre-game events at the Virginia Tech football game. They did a couple of things to try to honor and remember those murdered in April. There was a little film with some gorgeous a cappella singing. Wish I knew what it was, anyone know? I like me some a cappella stuff from time to time. The Beach Boys (Brian Wilson) did a number long ago called “This Whole World” which is probably my favorite Beach Boys number of all time. I do not know if that recording still is available. Brian Wilson later did another recording of it which I did not like as much. Oh, Well.
